Kuching North City Hall Orchid Garden

The Kuching North City Hall Orchid Garden also known as Kuching Orchid Park, is a unique place that nature lovers should come and visit this Garden for amazing collection of Orchid species that can be found in Sarawak and Borneo Island. This Orchid Park house a total collection of more than 75,000 plants of 82 genera.

The Orchid Garden is located strategically at the tourism hotspot of Kuching City. It is surrounded by other major tourism area including the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly Building and The Astana fort , and it is a walking distance from Kuching Riverfront via Darul Hana Bridge and Pengkalan Sapi habour. Visitors can also park at the car parks that is provided in the Orchid Park. There are many photographic opportunity around this area.

This Orchid Garden is officially open on 5th March 2010, and it is well maintained garden. Visitors can see many well blooming orchids in this big orchid garden of 15.4 acre area.

This Orchid Garden is a good place to relax and amaze by the diversity of orchid species that is available in Borneo. It is best to bring friends and family to the tour in the garden and it will be a eye opening and education trip for everyone.

The things to bring for the visit in the Orchid garden may include :

• Phone or camera to capture the amazing orchid blooms. Preferable camera with macro lens for amazing macro photography of the orchid flowers.
• Ample amount of water as weather can be hot.
• Suitable and cool clothing.
• Sunblock and a hat if plan to go during the hot afternoon.
• Mosquitoes repellent as the orchid garden is full of natural trees and shrubs.

When visiting the orchid garden it is always advice not to destroy or pluck the orchids, and ensure not to litter around, to ensure everyone have a fair chance to enjoy the amazing view of the orchids.

The outdoor Orchid Garden

The Orchid Garden is divided into two major section, the indoor nursery and the outdoor garden section. There is various walking paths in the outdoor display where visitors can walk between rows and rows or orchid plants of different genre. The outdoor garden is partially equipped with walkway canopy to have a good shades for the visitors and the orchids. It is best to visit the park in the morning or in the evening.

Multiple well path walkways are available in the park. Not all of the orchids have information signage on the name and description of the orchid plants. For normal visitors who just wants to photograph the amazing plants, this is the best place to photograph different types of orchid blooms in Kuching City.

Some of us do have simple potted orchids at home, but the displays of orchids in the Orchid Garden is just beyond the orchids that we normally seen at home. The plants comes in different forms, shapes and sizes. Many of the orchid species are not found in normal flower shops.

It is a enjoyable trip to walk around the outdoor orchid garden.

The indoor Orchid Garden

Other than the outdoor orchid garden, there are also a indoor orchid garden in the orchid park. It is a specially temperature, moisture and climate controlled greenhouse that allow more fastidious orchid to grow and bloom. In the indoor garden there are also different species of ferns and shrubs. During our visit there are many blooming orchids here.

There is a feeling of trolling in the rain forest while walking in the indoor garden as there are many different fern trees and hanging plants along the path. There are many young orchid plants too and hence also known as a nursery for orchids.

It is cool and soothing environment in the indoor garden. Kids and family sure likes the environment here.

It is a great experience in the Kuching Orchid Garden tour and we manage to take some of the many blooming orchid flowers in the garden. Orchid do have specific requirement for weather condition and season of the year to bloom and we manage to see many of them blooming during our tour.
