The “Smirking Lion” is located at the Chinese section (Larger Garden) of the friendship park, in back of the Main Entrance of the Chinese Gateway facing the RH Tea Pavilion. It features a pair of Qilin (麒麟) instead of alleged lion. Qilin is a mystical chimerical creature known in Chinese and other East Asian cultures. It depicts a chimerical creature with the head of a dragon, the antlers of a deer, the skin and scales of a fish, the hooves of an ox and tail of a lion.
Qilin was described as early as Jin dynasty of China, also in Ming and Qing dynasty. Although there is variation in description of the creature in different dynasty, but the main features of Dragon head and powerful hooves.
The “Smirking Lion” PokéStop is one of the famous Pokemon Go farming loop in Friendship Park. This PokéStop marks the correct spot to look for Stone Qilin Statue, however it marked at the wrong Qilin. The image in Pokemon Go portray a Stone Qilin Statue which supposed to be at the right of the Main Entrance Gateway viewed from RH Tea Pavilion, but appears somewhat at the left in the Pokemon Go Game. Pokemon Go Trainers may also end up finding the epicenter of this stop lies at the friendship memorial at the left of the Gateway as viewed from the Pavilion.
This PokéStop radius covers the Chinese Gateway, Friendship Memorial, part of R.H. Tea Pavilion and the Chinese Plaza. This PokéStop have overlap coverage with “KSF Bus Stop” PokéStop, making this stop one of the favorable stop for farming without walking. Pokemon Go trainers can have a relax sit at the Benches beside the Jogging Path, or a better choice at the front porch of R.H. Tea Pavilion, where trainers can have a good accessibility to three PokéStop (Rock Garden, Smirking Lion and Lion Gate Statue) and one PokeGym (Friendship Memorial Kuching Malaysia) at same time without much moving.
During peak hours, the R.H. Tea Pavilion front porch will be pack with Pokemon Go trainers. Occasionally this PokéStop can be out of range from the Pokemon Go Trainers sitting at the front porch of R.H. Tea Pavilion, requiring players to walk towards the Chinese Gateway to get it in range for farming.
This PokéStop is also within the major farming loop of the park, with some walking effort along the jogging path, Pokemon Go Trainers can benefit from most of the other PokéStops nearby. At night, this Park become a Pokemon Trainers hot spot, with most of the PokéStops are Lure activated. The whole map may filled with pink flowers flying around with all PokéStop Lure activated.
