Out of many cat statue around Kuching city, which is the most photographed cat of all ? “The Cat Family” or also known as “family of cats” stay top of the list. It is featured in many blogs, websites, books and travel posters. It was said that those tourist who didn’t take photos with these cats are considered never visit the Cat City Kuching.

There are traffic light with audio guide for the blind at three sides of the triangle. Visitors can cross the busy traffic safely to the statue and have a memorable photograph with the statue.

The Cat Family statue consists of father cat, mother cat and seven playful kitten. The Yellow-orange color cat with black stripes is the father cat, being alert looking at the traffic of kuching city while their kittens playing around him.

5 kittens are playing in two small groups with group 3 in front of the parents and 2 behind their parents. There is one kitten on the right busy grooming and wiping its head with his paws. Another kitten on the left is taking a sip from the water feature.

Overall the statue brings the meaning of harmony and unity. It also promotes the concept of “unity in diversity” where each cat is different from their fur color but as a whole they are a family. As a fact, the Kuching was also proclaimed the first ‘City of Unity’ in Malaysia on 1st August 2015.

The statue is designed and mold from concrete, with low flowing water feature over the edge of the pedestal. At night the statue is lit up with bright lights.
